Jenlis Inc :: Calf Coats
Why use a calf coat (also referred to as a calf jacket of calf blanket)?
Your veterinarian will probably tell you to feed your calf more in cold weather than in warm weather. Why? because the calf needs more energy to in the winter to maintain its body temperature. This is where calf coats, (calf jackets or blankets) come in. For its first six weeks of life, a calf does not have enough body fat to maintain its own body temperature. It requires more energy. Calves are not designed to born in the winter. We breed cows all year long so we can have milk produced all year long, but that is not the way mother nature planned it. Calf coats provide the additional layer of insulation mother nature did not. Feeding calves can be expensive and you want as much of that feed to go towards growth as possible. Calf coats help you direct that energy into calf growth instead of maintaining body temperture. Calf coats (jackets, blankets) save you money.
