Nutrient Management
Better Manure microbial assists with nutrient management
Our microbes, which come from natural environments, do not change the amount of nutrients in the manure, but they do change the form. Together with the indigenous microbes, they mineralize the manure water. Organic materials are turned into carbon dioxide and methane. Organic nitrogen is converted into inorganic ammonia that dissolves in water to become ammonium. Crops take up ammonium easily.
Better Manure’s treatment turns manure into a fast acting fertilizer. Since agitation is not needed in lagoons and the lagoons remain stratified, settled phosphorus can remain at the bottom until pumped.
Transportation & Application
Many farmers have more manure than land available for application. This problem has been magnified with the arrival of phosphorus based nutrient management regulations. Better Manure treated lagoon remain stratified, allowing much of the phosphorus and nitrogen to settle to the bottom. The top water is low in nutrients can be used to irrigate through a central pivot or drag line, even on growing drops. Because the lagoon remains stratified, only the bottom water needs to be pumped out and taken to more distant fields. This flexibility, provided by stratification, is priceless when trying to comply with all the regulations.

- Less Slippery floors
Some dairies have slippery floors in flush barns. The slime is caused by anaerobic microbes that flourish in the warm weather. Activating your lagoon with our microbes will bring aerobic microbes into the barn flush system. Our aerobic microbes out compete the slime microbes for the food on the floor. Thus, the slime microbes do not thrive and the floor are less slippery.
